This listing is for a beautiful Rookwood Art Pottery pitcher signed by decorator Constance Baker and dated 1893. This nice pitcher has a rich terracotta and dark brown background decorated with acorns and foliage in shades of green.The design covers the entire front of the pitcher from top edge to base.The base is marked with the incised Rookwood Pottery RP flame trademark stamp which dates the vase to 1893 and incised information "l, 8, W" with artists cipher for Constance A. Baker who worked at Rookwood Pottery from 1892-1904.

Measures 6 3/4" high, 6" wide (from spout to handle) and has a 3 1/4" diameter base. Weighs 1.6 pounds.

This nice pitcher has an attractive appearance and is in very good Estate condition although it does have a few minor issues. There is a faint scratch in the glaze in the center of the body below the spout, a minor factory flaw on the edge of one leaf below the neck and to the right of the handle and a tiny pin-point nick in the glaze on a leaf below the neck and left of spout. Overall, the beauty of this pitcher offsets the few minor flaws.

The Rookwood Pottery Company was founded by Maria Longworth Nichols in 1880 and won numerous prestigious awards with their early pottery. However, over the years she became less involved with the company and in 1890 the Rookwood Pottery Company was reorganized with William Taylor becoming President. Rookwood is considered the premier name in American Art Potteryand even the more common pieces of the production ware period are collected for their elegant beauty.The Depression was difficult for the Rookwood factory although they continued to operateuntil 1967 when the factory was finally forced to close.
