LEECH, John

• Pictures in Life and Character, in two volumes, published 1858 and 1859 by Bradbury and Evans.
• These copies are the first editions of the first and second series.
• John Leech was born in London. His father, a native of Ireland, was the landlord of the London Coffee House on Ludgate Hill, described, of fine culture, a profound Shakespearian, and a thorough gentleman.

Description

• Hardcover, oblong folio. Bound in original 1/4 leather, with green boards.
• Both fair copies with repairs visible to what must have been a loose spine; though appears firm now.
• Heavy rubbing and discolouration to the covers; rubbing to leather, especially at corners and spine. Contents unmarked; a few pages with small stains. The collection includes early editions of the first and second series. Complete with ninety four pages of illustrations and text to the first series and ninety six pages of illustrations and text to the second series.
